The Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center helps those who care for an adult with a brain impairment acquired after the age of 18.   Most services are at no cost to the caregiver.

The Center assists caregivers residing in Los Angeles County by directly providing:

We provide information and community resources on all aspects of care using our automated data base. We also provide fact sheets and articles from our library on brain impairments.

In addition to facilitating our own support groups, we provide referrals to existing support groups and assistance in establishing groups. Click on Support Groups for more information. link to top of page

section dividerFamily Consultations

We assist caregivers in resolving current issues and in planning for immediate and long-term care.

section dividerShort-term Counseling

Individual and family sessions with counselors offer emotional support to caregivers coping with the strain of the caregiving role. In addition, click on the Tingstad Older Adult Counseling Center.

section dividerRespite for Caregivers

Respite provides a period of short-term relief from the stresses of caring for a brain impaired adult. Funding is available for in-home help, out-of-home adult day care, and short-term 24 hour care. The USC Andrus Gerontology Center and the Tingstad Older Adult Counseling Center offer 48-hour! Retreats that provide caregivers with a holistic program of support and skill building for older caregivers caring for persons with dementia. link to top of page

section dividerLegal and Financial Consultations

A free consultation is available with an attorney experienced in issues relevant to caring for a brain impaired adult. The attorney will provide advice in such areas as establishing durable powers of attorney, conservatorship, financial planning and clarification of community property laws.

Specialized workshops concentrating on stress reduction, behavior management, research, diagnosis and other issues related to caregiving are held. See the LACRC Community Calendar for more workshop information. link to top of page
