The
Center assists caregivers residing in Los Angeles County by directly providing:
Resources
and Information
We
provide information and community resources on all aspects of care using our automated
data base. We also provide fact sheets and articles from our library on brain
impairments.
Support
Groups
In
addition to facilitating our own support groups, we provide referrals to existing
support groups and assistance in establishing groups. Click on Support
Groups for more information.
Family
Consultations
We
assist caregivers in resolving current issues and in planning for immediate and
long-term care.
Short-term
Counseling
Individual
and family sessions with counselors offer emotional support to caregivers coping
with the strain of the caregiving role. In addition, click on the Tingstad
Older Adult Counseling Center.
Respite
for Caregivers
Respite
provides a period of short-term relief from the stresses of caring for a brain
impaired adult. Funding is available for in-home help, out-of-home adult day care,
and short-term 24 hour care. The USC Andrus Gerontology Center and the Tingstad
Older Adult Counseling Center offer 48-hour!
Retreats that provide caregivers with a holistic program of support and skill
building for older caregivers caring for persons with dementia.
Legal
and Financial Consultations
A
free consultation is available with an attorney experienced in issues relevant
to caring for a brain impaired adult. The attorney will provide advice in such
areas as establishing durable powers of attorney, conservatorship, financial planning
and clarification of community property laws.
Workshops
for Families
Specialized
workshops concentrating on stress reduction, behavior management, research, diagnosis
and other issues related to caregiving are held. See the LACRC Community
Calendar for more workshop information.
